Recycling
WHAT IS RECYCLING?
DEFENITION: To treat or process (used or waste materials) so as to make suitable for reuse (www.dictionary.com)
Recycling is the process of converting waste materials into new materials and objects. It is an alternative to “conventional” waste disposal that can save material and help lower greenhouse gas emissions (compared to plastic production,[1][2] for example).
Recycling is a crutial part in our modern day living due to the fact that we generate a lot of waste through our buying behaviors. This creates large amount of waste that needs to be taken to the landfill site where the space is also limited. Thus it very important that we make sure we minimize the amount of waste. Taken to landfill through proper separation of the waste. The best way to do recycling is at the source where it is generated, as the volumes are less and each person, company factory should. Take responsibility for the waste they generate and ensure that recycling of their waste is maximized.
We collect and recycle the following types of waste: cardboard (k4), white paper (hl1),newspapers (f/w), magazines (sbm), mix paper (cmw), plastic bottles (pet), glass bottles (glass), plastic bags (mix plast),
Plastic bags clear (clear plastic), cans (cans), plastic bottles(hd), light steel, bumpers,
What is the process?
The recycling process starts at each site where the recyclable material is generated. There is different setups at different sites. At the big waste generators we have onsite workers that separate the waste from the waste stream before it is loaded to the dump site. Here they remove boxes, paper, cans, plastic bottles, plastic, tetra pack (milk cartons) and glass. At the sites where there is no onsite worker, the client separate the boxes from their waste and places it into cages or designated areas. This part of the process also helps to minimize the waste and have a cost advantage for the client. We then send our recycling collection trucks to collect the various commodities from the different sites. Some of the commodities are placed into 1 ton tuff bags and the boxes are mainly loaded from their designated area at the sites.
After collection the material is taken to our recycling plant in Windhoek. At the plant the final sorting takes place before the different commodities are baled. This sorting includes taking of each plastic bottle cap before baling and separating the colored paper from white paper. After the baling process the different commodities are loaded onto a link truck and send to the various destinations for further processing. The reason for exporting most of the materials is mainly due to the fact that there are no factories or plants that can breakdown or convert these materials into reusable form which is then used to create new products.
So do your part to save our environment and help us recycle!
